Mesmerized by the movement, the sound…glistening tips rolling on and on and on. Feeling as if I had been taken to another place, somewhere unknown to me, somewhere out there.
Drew stopped next to me, patiently watching me take it all in…silent. The view was indescribable. How is it that I’ve never seen such a thing in my 62 years?!
“Drew, what is this? It is SO beautiful!”
The breeze continued to tickle the leaves moving them in rhythmic harmony, out into the sea of green.
Quizzically, he responded.
“Love, this is a field of wheat.”
And suddenly, so many thoughts and memories aligned. I became that young child in school, voices squeaking, singing America the Beautiful:
O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America!
God shed His grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!
While the ‘waves’ were still green, I now realized how breathtaking it must have been for our forefathers to see them in a warm, golden glow, dancing in a gentle breeze.
Happy Earth Day!
How fortunate are we to be alive today, here and now. Celebrate! I am grateful for you.
