Day 48
The morning starts a little later today, being careful to stay rested and ready for next week. Drew is now completely recovered from the allergy/cold symptoms and we’re beginning to get anxious to be back on the bike. The morning is spent looking at ways to return at the end of our tour. Bangor airport is fairly close to Bar Harbor. Do we fly with the bikes or have them.shipped? We usually fly Southwest but they don’t fly in to Bangor. Do we take a connecting flight or rent a car to a different airport? We still have time to work out the details.
Each year I’ve traveled to Omaha, I’m told the zoo is one of the world’s best. Being a weekday, we decide to try it. Last Saturday, it was so crowded, we skipped it.
We were happy to get tickets for half price since we are annual pass holders for the Living Desert.
It was a beautiful day to spend outside, walking four hours to visit all the exhibits. Our favorite area was the rainforest where there were monkeys, birds and bats. The setting was awesome.
Back at the room, we prepare for next week. Tomorrow, Zachary flys in to Omaha and the quiet hotel will be bustling with cyclists. Laundry is done. Snacks repackaged and winding down the drinks and food we bought for the week.
And then, some of the best news ever!! Our package from Eleven Pine arrived!! Drew loves their bike shorts and liners. We hoped to see them at the expo on Saturday but when the expo map came out, we didn’t see them listed. A quick call on Monday confirmed they wouldn’t be there. Could we still get a replacement pair of shorts and liners before we leave to Sioux City on Saturday? I left a message and the owner Jeff called shortly afterwards. He checked inventory and said he’d try to get them shipped to the hotel in time. Having bike shorts that fit is essential and Drew’s kit from home is now too loose. That is a setup for blisters and rubbing at the bike seat area. Not good!! Woohoo! Problem resolved!!
And, weather is looking better!
Fingers crossed!!
